Show deserved standing O

Many mahalos to the Aloha Performing Arts Company for its magnificent production of Pruning the Family Tree, which opened Friday at the Aloha Theatre in Kainaliu. The performance, though not as bombastic or devastating as the earthquakes and volcanic eruptions that occurred earlier that day, deservedly earned a standing ovation from the opening night audience. The cast of four, Kerry Matsumoto, Catherine Williams, Heidi Livingston, and Julie Windell-Prado, reminded me of a fine string quartet playing a Beethoven masterwork, displaying great artistic coordination with instruments of different tonal qualities.

The play, a comedy by Dan Gordon and ably directed by Engela Edwards, closes May 20, with performances at 7:30 on Fridays and Saturdays, and 2:30 on Sundays. It’s not appropriate for children. My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed the show.
